A 63 year old male from northern Alabama (Athens, AL) died after getting caught in a rip current on the Ft Morgan peninsula on Wednesday morning. Bystanders were able to pull the vacationer out of the water, but numerous CPR and revival attempts were unsuccessful.
A Baldwin County Sheriff Deputy (male, 57 years old) died after rescuing swimmers during a swimmer in distress call around 6pm on Ft. Morgan. Four swimmers needed to be rescued from the Gulf waters. Another deputy who assisted in the rescue was hospitalized but recovered.
A 54 year old woman from Memphis, TN died as the result of rip currents. She was part of a human chain that formed to help rescue two other swimmers in distress, but it fell apart due to rip currents and high surf. In total, 20 people had to be rescued from the surf.
