As heavy snow began to taper off, winds began gusting from 40 to 55 mph, with visibility frequently below 1/4 mile from late evening into the overnight hours.

Wider weather episode

Accumulating snowfall upwards of 6 inches combined with strong north winds to create blizzard conditions within the Red River Valley. Near-blizzard conditions were experienced to the east of the Valley.
