Event narrative

Rain changed to freezing rain and accumulated to a tenth of an inch or less, followed by 1/2 of sleet and then snowfall accumulating 1-2 inches created hazardous driving conditions especially around the morning commute.

Wider weather episode

An arctic front slowly moved from northwest to southeast across VT during the morning hours of February 18th, bringing much colder air. Meanwhile, a weak surface wave was traveling northeast along this boundary. The combination allowed for light rain to change to freezing rain and eventually sleet and snow through the midday hours of February 18th.

Ice accumulations were generally around a tenth (0.10) of an inch with sleet/snowfall totals of 1 to 2 inches that created hazardous travel.
