A winter storm moved across northern Illinois on February 2nd producing heavy snow along and south of a line from Mendota to Aurora to Evanston, where snowfall amounts of 8 to 14 inches occurred. Snow amounts quickly diminished northwest of this line. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour were observed in the heaviest snow bands.

The highest storm total snowfall totals included 14.3 inches in Mokena; 13.8 inches two miles northwest of Chicago Heights; 13.0 inches in Paxton, Gibson City and Kankakee; 12.6 inches in Minooka; 12.5 inches in Lansing; 12.0 inches in Pontiac; 11.6 inches in Streator and New Lenox; 11.5 inches in Danforth, Frankfort, Lockport and near Emington; 11.2 inches near Burr Ridge; 11.0 inches in Homewood, Oak Lawn, Oak Forrest, Morris, Bradley, Herscher, Fairbury, Crest Hill, Joliet, Elwood and Braidwood. Chicago O'Hare Airport measured 5.6 inches and the National Weather Service office in Romeoville measured 10.0 inches.
