Event narrative

An estimated 4 to 8 inches of lake effect snow fell over a multi-day period. North winds gusting over 30 mph at times also caused considerable blowing snow. Keweenaw County Schools were closed on the 5th due to the snow and blowing snow.

Wider weather episode

A storm system tracking through the Mackinac Straits produced moderate to heavy lake effect snow over portions of west and north central Upper Michigan from the evening of the 4th into the morning of the 7th. The heaviest snow fell on the 5th for most locations.
