High Wind — Meade, Kansas
2022-01-15 · Meade, Kansas
Event narrative
The wind was measured at a location 2.2 E of Plains.
Wider weather episode
A strong cold front pushed through the area during the late morning into the early afternoon producing strong north wind gusts of 60-70 mph. This was amplified by the strong gradient and cold air advection that sent temperatures down through the 40s and 30s quickly behind the frontal passage. High wind warnings were issued for nearly the entire CWA during the afternoon and evening hours. Winds diminished to 45-55 mph towards midnight and 35-45 mph after sunrise the next morning as the gradient slowly weakened behind the front now well to the southeast.
