A strong shortwave progressed over the Great Lakes 2/18 into 2/19, providing favorable ascent aloft to support a deepening sub-1000mb cyclone that trekked across the upper peninsula of Michigan into Ontario. This system brought heavy snowfall in a short period of time, along with wind gusts in excess of 50 mph at times that lead to significant drops in visibility. Western Mackinac county saw the highest snowfall totals of 10-12 with a widespread 6-9 reported across northwest lower Michigan.
