Event narrative
CoCoRAHs spotter reported hail up to 2 in diameter lasting for 10 minutes, with the average size of hail around 1.5 in. Also reported damage to shingles and leaves shredded off trees.
Wider weather episode
A frontal boundary and associated mid-upper level shortwave forced a small area of scattered supercell-like convection across the Central Midlands. Deep dry air aloft and sufficient cloud layer shear produced an environment primarily conducive for hail, especially given the isolated storm mode. The scattered convection produced numerous hail reports including multiple significant hail reports up to 2.
