Event narrative

The West Nueces Wildfire started during the evening of March 27 along Tularosa Rd. in rural northeastern Kinney County. There were Red Flag Warnings in effect each day March 27 through April 1 when the fire was contained. The fire burned 1,750 acres.

Wider weather episode

Dry air and unusually warm temperatures produced extremely low relative humidity for several days at the end of March and beginning of April. These dry conditions combined with breezy winds to produce critical fire weather conditions.
