Event narrative
Several storms had repeatedly trained over the Denver City region causing multiple periods of heavy rainfall over a short period of time. Law enforcement in Denver City reported flooded roads in town from this heavy rainfall.
Wider weather episode
Widespread severe thunderstorms developed on the afternoon of the tenth as a weak upper level disturbance ejected overhead northward out of Mexico. The initial activity rapidly developed near the dryline, which was located near the Texas/New Mexico line, late Tuesday afternoon. Aided by strong instability, several of the storms quickly became severe mostly producing severe thunderstorm winds. The thunderstorms gradually evolved into a solid line and tracked eastward across much of the South Plains, Rolling Plains and southern Texas Panhandle through the mid-late evening hours continually producing severe winds. Lastly, a wake low developed in the departing convection which generated a high wind gust of 62 mph near McAdoo measured by the Texas Tech University West Texas mesonet.
