Severe (D2) drought conditions expanded into all of Deuel county by the end of April. The cooperative observer at Chappell reported 1.27 inches of precipitation for April.
Wider weather episode
Very dry conditions persisted across western and north central Nebraska in April. Little to no precipitation fell during the first four weeks of April as the bulk of precipitation for the month fell on the 29th and 30th of the month. This led to an expansion of extreme (D3) and severe (D2) drought conditions during the month of April.
