Along a plunging cold frontal boundary, a nocturnal complex of thunderstorms tracked to the east-southeast from Illinois into far southwestern central Indiana. Copious vertical wind shear and instability, including strong mid-level temperature lapse rates, fueled embedded cells with scattered severe winds.
