Event narrative
The local highway department reported a tree blown down by thunderstorm winds in Baptist. Pea-sized hail was also observed.
Wider weather episode
Numerous showers and storms fired during the afternoon and evening of the 19th in the vicinity of a wavering frontal boundary over eastern Kentucky. High amounts of instability and ample shear favored splitting supercells. While there were many reports of dime to quarter-sized hail, two particularly intense storms produced up to egg-size hail near Jackson and Stanton.
