A ridge of high pressure in the middle and upper atmosphere developed over the southern United States during mid July. Unseasonably hot afternoon temperatures reaching 100 to 110 degrees, combined with high humidity, resulted in heat index values in the 110 to 115 degree range across much of eastern Oklahoma on the 19th through 21st. There were at least 29 heat-related medical calls in the City of Tulsa during this period.
