Event narrative

A few trees were blown down by thunderstorm winds.

Wider weather episode

A ridge over the Tennessee Valley contributed to an extremely hot and humid environment over North Carolina. There was anomalously high instability in the area as well. This instability combined with an approaching outflow boundary from a complex of thunderstorms to the north, helped trigger widespread showers and thunderstorms. Several of these storms produced damaging winds and large hail.
