Event narrative

One tree was downed by thunderstorm winds on United States Highway 60 near Alcoma Road, and an additional tree was blown down on West James Anderson Highway.

Wider weather episode

A weakening cold front approaching the area from the Ohio River Valley interacted with an unstable environment in southwest Virginia to spawn scattered severe thunderstorms. A few of the storms in the Virginia Piedmont produced damaging winds.
