Wider weather episode
During the late morning and early afternoon hours on July 6th, scattered showers and thunderstorms along a stationary front across central Indiana intensified and moved southward. As these storms moved into southern Indiana, they strengthened further thanks to a highly unstable environment, with mixed-layer CAPE approaching 3000 J/kg. The storms, which were initially somewhat discrete, grew upscale as they approached the Ohio River, with cold pool mergers helping to organize new convection. Sufficient downdraft CAPE helped damaging winds reach the surface, with scattered wind damage reports being observed across southern Indiana.
