Wider weather episode

Widespread severe thunderstorms developed on the afternoon of the 29th triggered in part by an upper level disturbance approaching via the southern Rockies. A high amount of instability led to rapid thunderstorm development across the southwest Texas Panhandle and northwestern South Plains bringing sweeping severe wind gusts. This activity quickly grew into a line as it accelerated south and southeastward through the evening hours. Along the leading edge of the line, intense winds created a haboob severely limiting visibility in spots.
