Between 3:44 PM and 4:34 PM, winds gusted over 58 mph at the Malta South US-191 DOT site (MTMAL). The peak wind gust at that site was 60 mph and occurred at 3:44 PM and 3:45 PM.

Wider weather episode

A cold front moved through northeast Montana on July 18th with it's parent upper level low pressure system following after it and moving through on the 19th. This led to strong winds across the area.
