2022-07-24 · near Dunkirk, Dunkirk To Buffalo Ny, Lake Erie
Wider weather episode
Several waves of convection moved through the region during the afternoon and first half of the ensuing night as a slow moving cold front approached from southern Ontario. The event was long lived due to high instability and strong shear. The first round of convection broke out along a lake breeze boundary that stretched from the Finger Lakes region back across the Southern Tier. The next round of storms that developed after sunset produced wind damage and also very heavy rain. This was a rare event in that back to back severe thunderstorm watches were issued across the NWS Buffalo county warning area.
