Wider weather episode

During the afternoon and evening hours on August 9th, a nearly stationary surface front was located over southern Indiana. Along and south of this boundary, temperatures surged into the mid-to-upper 80s with dewpoints reaching the low-to-mid 70s, contributing to the development of around 2000 J/kg MLCAPE. This instability and moisture promoted the development of scattered convection across the region during the afternoon hours, most of which was sub-severe. However, in the early evening hours, a particularly strong cluster of storms developed near the Ohio River as incoming storms from south central Indiana caught up to ongoing convection over northern Kentucky. The collision of these two areas of thunderstorms produced a briefly-severe thunderstorm which produced wind damage in Jefferson County.
