Event narrative

A series of moderate, to at times strong, thunderstorms moved through Capitol Reef National Park over the span of 2 to 3 hours. Multi-Radar/Multi-Sensor 3-hour rainfall estimates showed around 1 to 2 inches within the park. As a result, a flow of 6-8 inches of water moved through Capitol Gorge, as reported by Park officials.

Wider weather episode

Another active setup in mid-late July resulted in numerous microburst related wind gusts in portions of Utah's West Desert Region, as well as a report of severe hail. Additionally, flash flooding was noted in southern Utah. This also coincided with a period of anomalous heat across much of the region.
