Event narrative

To start September, drought conditions in the western half of Daniels County worsened to (D2-Severe) drought conditions while the eastern half was in (D1-Moderate) drought. On the second week of September all but the northeast corner of Daniels County worsened to (D2-Severe) drought while the northeast corner remained in (D1-Moderate) drought. By the end of September the southwestern three quarters of Daniels County worsened to (D3-Extreme) drought while the northern and eastern borders of the county were in (D2-Severe) drought.

Wider weather episode

A dry August allowed drought to return to portions of northeastern Montana.
