Event narrative

Severe (D2) drought conditions over far southern McPherson county expanded into the southern half of McPherson county by the end of August. Moderate (D1) drought conditions developed over the northern half of the county by the end of the month.

Wider weather episode

Drought severity worsened across most of western and north central Nebraska in August. Severe (D2) drought conditions expanded to all of the central and eastern Sandhills by the end of the month. By the end of August, exceptional (D4) drought had developed over the large portion of southwestern Nebraska.
