Event narrative
To start October, ongoing drought conditions in all of the Little Rocky Mountains were in (D2-Severe) conditions. On the third week of October, the western two thirds of the Little Rocky Mountains worsened to (D3-Extreme) drought, while the eastern third of the Little Rocky Mountains remained in (D2-Severe) conditions. These conditions would remain the same through the end of the month.
Wider weather episode
Although October saw normal to above normal rain and snowfall for northeast Montana, above normal temperatures and lingering impacts from the past two years of drought allowed the drought to persist or worsen in spots.
