Wider weather episode
On the afternoon of October 12th, warm and moist air was in place ahead of a potent cold front. Isolated to scattered showers and storms developed in the open warm sector ahead of the front. In the presence of limited low level shear but adequate deep layer shear, some storms took on supercellular characteristics with large hail and damaging winds closer to the cold front and brought an additional round of strong, damaging winds into the overnight.
