Event narrative

Periods of moderate to heavy lake effect snow accumulated to between 4 and 10 inches. There was a report of 10.0 9 miles south-southeast of Cassopolis, and 8.8 inches 5 miles east of Niles. Visibilities were reduced to a quarter of a mile or less in heavier snow. The heavy, wet nature to the snow led to some downed tree limbs and brief power outages. Roads become slick and snow covered, with reports of accidents and slide-offs in the area. School delays and closings were also reported.

Wider weather episode

Bands of heavy, wet lake effect snow developed during the early morning hours of November 16th, and persisted through mid-morning on November 17th. Snowfall totals between 6 and 10 inches were common, with localized amounts in excess of a foot.
