Significant precipitation deficits continued into October with severe to extreme drought persisting through the month. Ray County began October mostly within D2 drought, with D3 drought setting in across southern Ray County toward the Missouri River by early October.

Significant precipitation deficits from the summer/early fall months continued into October, with severe drought (D2) continuing and even expanding into extreme drought (D3) for much of the Interstate 70/Missouri River corridor in Missouri and Kansas per the UNL US Drought Monitor. These drought conditions yielded a fairly active fire weather season in October.
