Strong southwest winds preceded an approaching winter storm system from the west on December 12, 2022. High winds impacted areas from south-central New Mexico stretching northward into the central highlands. Peak gusts upwards of 60 to 67 mph were common through southwestern Socorro and Lincoln Counties.
