A low pressure system progressed through the area during the very early morning hours of December 22nd. Cold temperatures that were in place at the time of precipitation resulted in wintry precipitation across northern West Virginia and along the higher terrain.
Freezing rain was observed just after midnight on the 22nd, with instances of black ice leading to slippery spots in time for the morning commute. Several vehicle crashes in Raleigh, Fayette, and Gilmer Counties occurred due to the icy roadways.
