Event narrative

Middle Island Creek in the town of Little rose above its 14 foot bankfull level on the evening of January 3rd. The creek crested at 14.29 feet an hour later and then returned to its banks twenty-four hours later. While out of its banks, Stewarts Run Road observed minor flooding as did the field adjacent to the creek.

Wider weather episode

A large upper level disturbance lumbered through West Virginia between January 3rd and 4th, leading to persistent rain showers across the Ohio River Valley. As rain continued to fall in northwest West Virginia, coupled with excessive rainfall from upstream, Middle Island Creek in Tyler County rose out of its banks. This led to minor flooding of adjacent fields and roadways near the creek.
