Event narrative
Heavy lake-effect snowfall was received across northern Iron County with totals of around 5 inches in the southern part of the county to around 2 feet along the snowbelt west of Hurley. The highest amount was 24.5 inches in Gile.
Wider weather episode
An area of low pressure moved across northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan the 17th into the 18th. This track led to northerly winds across western Lake Superior leading to lake-effect snowfall across northwestern Wisconsin. The bands of snow first affected northern Douglas County before pivoting eastward as winds shifted from northeasterly to northerly. The band then stalled out over Iron County and dumped upwards of 2 feet of snow on the Gile area before ending.
