Heavy Snow — Seattle and Vicinity, Washington

2022-11-29 to 2022-11-30 · Seattle and Vicinity, Washington

Event narrative

An early season winter storm brought heavy snow to portions of the Seattle metro area. Areas nearest to the water were generally too warm for accumulating snow, but there were drastic differences in small distances at higher elevations. Areas across the northern sections of the area, for example Shoreline and Mountlake Terrace received 5 to 7 inches of new snow from this event. Other reports across the area were generally in the 1-3 inch range.

Wider weather episode

An early season winter snow brought heavy snow to portions of the lowlands. Deep upper level troughing along with Fraser outflow near the surface supplied the proper set up for winter weather. Dynamic cooling also played a major role in areas of heaviest snow, especially around Kitsap, King, and Snohomish Counties.
