Event narrative

A trained spotter reported snowfall accumulations of 0.8 inches 3 miles east northeast of Charlie Heath Memorial Park . The COOP Observer in Memphis reported a dusting of snow. Winds increased significantly with gusts across the region ranging from 40 to 50 MPH after the snow fell leading to blowing and drifting snow. An estimated wind chill of -23 was reported at Kahoka.

Wider weather episode

A strong winter storm brought widespread snow to the region Thursday, with amounts up to an inch in Clark and Scotland Counties. Strong winds also accompanied the snow, which caused significant blowing and drifting, especially in rural areas. Even stronger winds were observed on Friday across the area. Wind gusts between 40-50 mph were common, with low visibilities. In addition, temperatures dropped sharply behind the arctic cold front on Thursday and continued to fall throughout the day. Single digit temperatures with wind chills between -20 and -30 degrees were common.
