A long lasting lake effect snow event occurred from the late evening hours of the 16th to the morning hours of the 20th. A deep upper level low settled across the region resulting in a band of heavy lake effect snow across Lake Erie. This band of snow first impacted the Buffalo south towns then became more oriented across the city of Buffalo through the day on the 17th. Lake effect began to the east of Lake Ontario on the morning of the 17th but didn't significantly increase until on the night of the 17th and on into the 18th. Late on the 18th, another storm system brought a resurgence to the lake effect off both lakes before a passing trough began to diminish intensity of the lake snows by the morning of the 20th. Selected accumulations for this long-lasting event included 41.0 inches in North Osceola, 24.3 inches in Richland, 22.2 inches in Eden, 21.3 inches in Hamburg, 14.4 inches in Jefferson, 13.1 inches in Warsaw, 12.4 inches in Silver Creek, and 8.7 inches in West Valley.
