Event narrative

Snow squall reduced visibilities down to a quarter of a mile as well as sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 38 mph moved through from 10:30 to 11:05AM. Additional moderate snow occurred through the period with visibilities reduced to a half of a mile to a mile and similar wind gusts. A total of 2.2 inches of snow was measured in Erie.

Wider weather episode

Bands of moderate to heavy snow developed during the early morning hours across south central and southeast Kansas. Visibilities were significantly reduced down to a quarter of a mile to a mile with sustained wind speeds of 15 to 30 mph and gusts of 40 to near 50 mph. Multiple vehicular accidents were reported with a few possible or suspected injuries; only minor details are known. Artic air surged southward as part of this system as well with wind chills dropping to -24 to -38.
