A pocket of D2/Severe Drought remains in place to start the month of February in north central South Dakota. The area received near normal precipitation for the month thanks to a series of systems, with Mobridge registering a slightly above normal 0.77 inches of liquid equivalent, while SDSU Mesonet and COOP observers also in the area of D2/Severe Drought such as Bowdle, McIntosh and McLaughlin actually showed a slight deficit. Overall there was only a slight reduction of D2/Severe Drought coverage by the end of the month. This area has been in D2/Severe Drought since early November.
