Event narrative

An inch or two of wet snow and sleet led to slick roads across Schuylkill County on March 3, 2023, resulting in an accident involving a tractor Trailer on I-81 southbound on the bridge over Mollystown Road in Pine Grove Township. The trailer ended up hanging off the bridge over Mollystown Road, causing a hazard to the road below. There was a lane restriction on I-81 southbound for nearly 6 hours while the truck was removed and the bridge was checked for structural damage.

Wider weather episode

Low pressure tracked up the Ohio Valley and across Pennsylvania March 3 into early March 4, 2023. Snow, sleet, and patchy freezing rain overspread the area on March 3, before gradually changing over to light rain from southwest to northeast. 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet was observed from the central mountains into northeastern Pennsylvania. Any ice accretion was generally minimal and confined to higher elevations.
