Event narrative

Heavy snow impacted a small portion of the zone, where an estimated ten inches of snow fell at the Silver Creek Divide SNOTEL.

Wider weather episode

An upper low winter storm system tracked over southern portions of New Mexico. Moderate to heavy snow amounts were observed atop the peaks of the southwest mountains, Jemez Mountains, and Sangre de Cristo Mountains from this event. These totals ranged from 10 to 11.5 inches. Already present snow packed and icy roads from prior events were exacerbated by this winter storm event, keeping hazardous winter travel conditions going for many high elevation mountain passes.
