Event narrative

Over a period of 27 hours, Kit Carson County experienced freezing fog, freezing rain, and heavy snow. During the day on the 2nd, the fog produced visibilities as low as one-quarter mile with moisture from the fog and following freezing rain creating ice accumulations up to 0.02 inches. The greatest ice accumulations occurred near Burlington, Colorado. During the evening hours through the early morning hours on the 3rd, heavy snow produced two to six inches of snow over the county. The highest snow amounts were reported on the west side of the county near the town of Flagler, Colorado. Key impacts: reduced visibility, heavy snow, and hazardous travel conditions.

A strong system moved east over East-Central Colorado producing freezing fog, freezing rain, and heavy snow over Kit Carson and Yuma counties. Visibilities as low as one-quarter mile was observed in both counties with zero accidents reported.
