Event narrative

Buoy station 42040 measured a peak wind gust of 60 mph or 52 knots from thunderstorm winds.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper level trough ejected over the Southern Plains which caused rapid surface cyclogenesis to occur in southeast Texas. This surface low traversed across central and northern Louisiana. The rapid development of the surface low gave way to very high shear values, and with enough instability, a line of thunderstorms formed along its cold front. The line pushed through the waters and produced multiple wind gusts over 34 knots. By mid-morning on the 25th, the front and line of storms exited the coastal waters.
