Event narrative

CoCoRaHS observers freezing rain accumulations across the county. A tenth of an inch of ice accumulation was recorded about 6 miles south of Ellsworth while a quarter of an inch of ice was reported near River Falls, WI.

Wider weather episode

A strong area of low pressure advanced across the Central Region of the United States. Given its track, the northern sector of this storm contained plentiful moisture and warm air advection from the south. Mixed precipitation types were observed with this storm. For Western Wisconsin, most areas would observe a mix of rain and snow in the overnight hours Sunday night and a transition to freezing rain during the daytime hours Monday. A winter storm warning was issued for potential of 2 inches of snowfall, up to 1/4 inch of ice accumulation, and 40 mph wind gusts.

Only a few counties would observe ice significant ice accumulation. Chippewa Valley Regional Airport observed 0.28 inches of ice, and an observer near River Falls, WI reported 0.25 inches. In St. Croix County, 16 calls of assistance were received due to vehicles off of the roadway from icy road conditions. Snowfall was observed in parts of the region however accumulations were null to a tenth of an inch.
