Wider weather episode
At the surface, a low moved northeastward from southwestern Lower MI to central Lake Huron and became occluded during the late morning through early evening of the 25th. Simultaneously, the accompanying warm front decelerated as it moved northeastward across western and central Lake Erie toward eastern Lake Erie and was eventually overtaken by a cold front that swept generally eastward from southwestern Lower MI and near the IN/OH border toward eastern Lake Erie.
Several lines of multicell showers and thunderstorms occurred along and ahead of the cold front and along the warm front. This surface-based and low-topped convection produced several severe gusts along the southern shore of Lake Erie as associated precipitation was very efficient at transporting stronger flow just aloft down to the surface. The ambient environment consisted of moderate to strong deep layer bulk shear, weak MUCAPE, steep low-level lapse rates, and sizable DCAPE along the immediate southern lakeshore.
