Event narrative

A line of thunderstorms pushed off the coast and over the Laguna Madre and Coastal Waters the late in the evening of April 28th into the early morning hours of April 29th. The Texas Ocean Observing Network (TCOON) site at Realitos Peninsula (RLIT2) began gusting above 34 knots at 1:30AM CDT and continued until 1:36AM CDT and recorded a peak gust of 52 knots at 1:30AM CDT. Additionally, the same line of thunderstorms brought a wind gust of 41 knots to the NOAA's National Ocean Service (NOS) site at Port Isabel (PCGT2) at 1:42AM CDT and a wind gust of 49 knots to the South Padre Island Coast Guard Station (PCGT2) TCOON site at 1:42AM CDT.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front barreled through Texas the afternoon of April 28th and spawned a line of showers and thunderstorms. This line of showers and thunderstorms stormed through the Lower Texas Coastal Waters with the highest reported wind gust at Realitos Peninsula with a recorded wind gust of 52 knots, or 60 mph. Most other sites recorded wind gusts between 40 to 50 knots.
