The observer at Michigamme measured a quarter inch of ice accumulation on top of fallen snow in the early morning of the 5th. He also reported a quarter mile visibility in fog as well.

A warm front lifting north from the Central Plains and Lower Great Lakes brought showers and thunderstorms across the area which turned to widespread freezing rain late from the 4th into the early morning of the 5th across west and central Upper Michigan.
