Measured at Raton Crews Airport ahead of a thunderstorm.

Wider weather episode

An upper-level disturbance tracked along the NM and CO border producing a few severe storms in northern Colfax and Union Counties. The storms produced some quarter to ping pong ball sized hail and some damaging wind gusts of up to 70 mph. Storms quickly moved east into Texas and Oklahoma during the evening hours. The system also produced strong westerly winds across central NM thanks to deep boundary layer mixing with one high wind gust at Clines Corners during the mid-afternoon hours.
