Wider weather episode

A trough and its associated cold front swept across the Midwest late on June 25, 2023. Ahead of this system, a warm, moist airmass was in place across Middle Tennessee with an abundant amount of instability and wind shear. The first round of thunderstorms developed ahead of the cold front during the early afternoon, and strong, tall updrafts resulted in large hail with the biggest hail stones up to two inches. Another round of the severe thunderstorms was expected during the evening hours, but despite favorable severe weather parameters in place, the worst of the thunderstorms bypassed the area. A broken line of thunderstorms developed along the cold front with the northern portion of the line to the north of Middle Tennessee and the southern portion to the area. Because of this and the more eastward motion of the thunderstorms, they only clipped northern Middle Tennessee. What did move into the area produced severe winds with reports of trees down received across Clay and Overton counties.
