Event narrative
An area of low pressure tracked out of the Ohio Valley and through the southern Great Lakes on March 10th, passing just south of Erie, PA during the afternoon hours. A swath of accumulating snow occurred to the north of this low pressure, with a narrow band of heavy snow impacting extreme northwest Pennsylvania from late in the morning through much of the afternoon. Snow rates exceeded one inch per hour at times in this band of heavy snow. A trained spotter recorded a peak snowfall of 10.5 inches with this storm in North East Township. Elsewhere, a spotter measured 10 inches in Greene Township and 9.5 inches in Greenfield Township. Traffic accidents resulted, including a multi-vehicle accident along I-90 at mile marker 39 outside of North East Township. This accident closed I-90 Eastbound for several hours.
