Event narrative

Fairly persistent showers moved over Sulphur Creek during the morning hours, with thunderstorms moving over the Capitol Reef National Park area during the early afternoon. The storms resulted in quick bursts of heavy rain, with radar estimates showing around 0.4 to 0.6 inches of rainfall over the affected area. Subsequently, Capitol Reef National Park officials reported approximately 8 to 10 inches of water flowing through Sulphur Creek near the Capitol Reef National Park Visitor Center. A visitor report of knee- to thigh-deep water within Spring Canyon was also relayed from a Park Ranger.
