A Texas Tech University West Texas mesonet site near Abernathy measured a severe wind gust of 60 mph.

Wider weather episode

A cluster of thunderstorms developed in eastern New Mexico and tracked to the southeast into the extreme southern Texas Panhandle and northern South Plains during the late evening hours. Very strong thunderstorm outflow winds produced several severe wind gusts across the area.
